Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Neesha. She’s from Australia and she’s been staying here in Niseko this winter where she did snowboarding and doing homeschooling. She said she’s been snowboarding for two years.

　今日のゲストはニーシャです。　ニーシャはオーストラリアからで、冬シーズンはニセコでスノーボードとホーム・スクールをしています。　スノーボード歴は２年目です。

We mainly did powder two years ago. We only started doing jumps mainly this year, and a little bit at the end of last year.

　「２年前はパウダーをメインに滑りました。　ジャンプは先シーズンの終わりに少しだけやって、メインは今シーズンからです。」

Kia Ora, in Stick News today, the winners of the 2007 video awards have been announced and The Daily English Show narrowly missed out on the prize for the best instructional video.

　2007年ビデオ大賞が発表され、The Daily English Showは教育ビデオ部門で惜しくも選ばれませんでした。

The winners of the second annual YouTube video awards were announced last week.
According to YouTube the twelve winners took home bragging rights, a trophy and the promise of an invitation to a special event later this year.
Sadly, The Daily English Show was robbed of the best instructional video title by some boring video about a Rubik’s cube.

　２回目を迎えた、年に一度のユーチューブ・ビデオ大賞の作品が先週、発表されました。
　ユーチューブによると12名の受賞者には栄誉とトロフィー、そして年内にあるスペシャル・イベントへの招待状が届けられました。
　悲しくもThe Daily English Showは教育部門のタイトルを、くだらないルービックキューブのビデオに奪われてしまいました。

　　What’s your dream for the future?

Sarah
What’s your favourite thing to do on a snowboard?
　スノーボードで好きな事は何？

Neesha
With tricks, I like doing method grabs, which is where you grab the back of the board in between your feet.
　トリック系ではメゾット・グラブ、つまり前の手でヒールサイドをグラブして体を反らせる技が好き。

Sarah
How was the Namara Ippatsu competition?
　なまら一発杯はどうだった？

Neesha
Yeah, it was good, but the jumps were pretty big, so ... It was our first competition, so it was pretty scary.
　良かったけど、けっこう大きなジャンプだったし、大会に出るのは初めてだったから、ちょっと怖かった。

Sarah
Do you think you’ll go in it again next year?
　来年も出場する？

Neesha
Um yeah, I’d like to, because we’ll probably have a bit more confidence and know a bit more tricks.
　うん、出てみたい。　次はもう少し自信と別の技があると思うから。

Sarah
Is there anything you miss about Australia?
　オーストラリアのモノで何か恋しいモノは？

Neesha
No, maybe, um, when, um ... It’s pretty cold here sometimes so I like the warmth in Australia. And I can’t skateboard here.
　特に無いかな。　でも寒いときオーストラリアの暖かさが恋しいかも。　それと、ここではスケボー出来ない。

Sarah
How long have you been skateboarding?
　スケートボード歴は？

Neesha
Um, maybe two years.
　２年くらい。

Sarah
What kind of tricks do you like to do on a skateboard?
　スケートではどんなトリックが好き？

Neesha
Um, ollies and 50-50 grinds.
　オーリーと50-50グラインドが好き。

Sarah
How long have you been learning Japanese?
　日本語を勉強し始めてどれくらい？

Neesha
We learnt a little bit last year, but we’ve mainly learnt, um, it this year. Just phrases like what is your name and how old are you and how are you and things like that.
　去年、少し勉強したけどメインは今年から。　What is your nameとかHow old are youとかHow are youとか簡単なフレーズだけ。

Sarah
What do you think is the best way to study Japanese?
　日本語の勉強にイチバン良い方法は何だと思う？

Neesha
Well, it’s good talking to people and it’s good when the Japanese people speak lots of English and they speak Japanese so you can ask them how to pronounce something properly. And we’ve got little books, just little, um, Japanese study books, so, yeah, reading them, it’s good.
　人と話すのも良いし、英語が上手い日本人に日本語の発音を聞くのも良いね。　私たち、日本語を勉強する本を持っているんだけど、それを読むのも良い。

Sarah
Do you enjoy doing homeschooling?
　ホーム・スクールは楽しい？

Neesha
Yeah, it’s really fun, because you can do half day of school work, half day of, um, snowboarding. So things like that, yeah, it’s good in that way.
　うん、とても楽しい。　半日勉強、半日スノーボード出来るから。　このスタイル良いよ。

Sarah
What do you most enjoy studying?
　何の勉強がイチバン好き？

Neesha
Well, cause I’m in year five, I don’t study Japanese as my schoolwork. Um, I like doing algebra, even though that’s year seven work. But I’ve just started learning, um, harder times tables, like nines and eight times tables, things like that.
　5年生だから日本語の勉強はしません。　代数が好き、普通は7年生から勉強するんだけどね。　そして今、九九の８と９を勉強してる所だから難しい、てな感じ。

Sarah
What’s your dream for the future?
　将来の夢は？

Neesha
I’d like to be a professional snowboarder or skateboarder.
　プロのスノーボーダーかスケートボーダーになりたいです。

女の子へのインタビューはこれで２回目です。
ニーシャには将来、プロ・スケーターかボーダーとしてがんばってもらいたいです。

ちょっと年齢が離れていますが、2007年夏にした別の女の子のインタビューです。
