Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
I have a few announcements to make today.
Firstly, the snow here in Niseko is almost gone so during April we’re just going to have The Snow Report once a week. And I’ll show you what snow looks like ... melting.

　今日はいくつかアナウンスがあります。
　一つ目は、４月に入って降雪が少なくてニセコの雪も減る一方なので、THE SNOW REPORTを週一回にします。　そこで雪の溶け具合をお届けします。

Kia Ora, in Stick News today, Japan is going to launch a paper plane from space to learn about future spacecraft design.

　日本が宇宙から紙ヒコーキを飛ばし、将来の宇宙船のデザインを研究します。

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has announced they will spend up to 90 million yen on studies in the next three years.
Four space experiments were approved last week, including the paper plane project.
The Agency is planning to launch a paper plane from the International Space Station to Earth.
A spokesperson said: “The paper plane’s return from space will give us tips about designing new spacecrafts.”
“In its initial flight, we may write on the paper of the plane in different languages, ‘please let us know when you find this.’”

　宇宙航空研究開発機構は9,000万円を限度に3年の歳月をかけて、いくつかの研究をすると発表しました。
　先週、紙ヒコーキ計画を含む4つの宇宙研究が承認されました。
　同開発機構は紙ヒコーキを、国際宇宙ステーションから地球へ向けて飛ばす計画です。
　スポークスマンは、「宇宙から戻ってきた紙ヒコーキを調べて、新しい宇宙船のデザインに役立てたい。」と述べました。
　「初めのフライトの紙ヒコーキには、数カ国語でメッセージを書きますので、見つけた方はご連絡ください。」

Word Of The Day

Today’s word is bamboozle. I heard this word in a video recently and I really like the sound of it. Bamboozle.

　今日の単語はbamboozleです。　この単語は最近、動画を見ているときに聞いたんですが、音が気に入りました。　Bamboozle.

According to the Concise Oxford Learner’s Dictionary (I mean: Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary), bamboozle is an informal verb which means: to confuse sb, especially by tricking them.

　オックスフォード英英辞書によりますと、bamboozleとはインフォーマルな動詞で【ことば巧みに欺く、だます、迷わす】という意味です。

I searched for bamboozle online and I discovered that there’s a festival in New Jersey in the United States called The Bamboozle. And there’s a kind of quiz game on TV in the UK called Bamboozle. And a satirical film released in the year 2000 called Bamboozled.

　オンラインでbamboozleを調べてみたところ、「The Bamboozle」という名前のお祭りが米ニュージャージー州にありました。　イギリスには「Bamboozle」と言う名前のクイズのようなテレビ番組がありました。　そして2000年に公開された風刺映画は「Bamboozled」です。

Yeah, pretty much. Well, there’s still piles of snow everywhere, but it’s melting.

Is the mountain closed?
　山はもうクローズ？

Sarah
No, not yet. 
　まだやっている。

Timmy
When does it close?
　いつクローズ？

Sarah
At the start of May, I think. After golden week. But it depends on how much snow there is.
 　５月上旬、GWまでだと思う。　でもどれだけ雪が残っているかによる。

Timmy
Are people still skiing?
　スキーしている人、まだいるの？

Sarah
Yeah. The snow is all slushy and icy, but you can still ski on it.
　いるよ。　シャバシャバでアイシーだけど、スキーできるよ。

It's not going to be the same style each time - sometimes me talking, sometimes words and voice, sometimes pictures and voice ...
Any ideas for words?

Mistake: I said the name of the dictionary wrong. I have two English-English dictionaries in my electronic dictionary: Concise Oxford Dictionary and Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary - I got the two names mixed up.
