Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
The third of April is The Daily English Show’s birthday. We started on Monday the 3rd of April, 2006. So we are now two years old.
So, happy birthday to us and thank you – thank you for your feedback and for your wonderful support.

　４月３日はThe Daily English Showの誕生日です。　私たちは2006年4月3日月曜日にスタートしましたので、満２才になりました。
　皆さんのフィードバックと素晴らしいサポートに感謝申し上げます。　ありがとう。

And thank you to Powderlife Magazine who has just done an article about us. Obviously, they have excellent taste.
They also published one of knf’s photos – this was taken when they hiked up Yotei-zan, if you remember show #665.

Kia Ora, in Stick News today an 18-year-old New Zealander has been convicted of international cybercrime and faces up to seven years in jail.

　ニュージーランド人の男（18才）が国際サイバー犯罪を犯し、最高7年の実刑判決が言い渡されようとしています。

This 18-year-old boy is from a small town called on the Coromandel Peninsula in Aotearoa.
The New Zealand Herald reported he was homeschooled during his high school years and had no formal training in computers.
He taught himself computer programming and at some point began experimenting with malware and created his own bot code.
Police said his code is "considered by international cybercrime investigators to be among the most advanced bot programming encountered".
In February 2006, the Kiwi boy helped attack a computer server at the University of Pennsylvania and cause thousands of dollars of damage.
He was tracked down after an FBI investigation and has now pleaded guilty to six charges including dishonest use of a computer, damaging a computer system and possessing software for committing crime.

　この18才の少年はニュージーランドのコルマンデル半島という小さな町の出身です。
　ニュージーランド・ヘラルドはレポートで、少年の高校生時代はホーム・スクールで学び、フォーマルなコンピュータのトレーニングは受けていなかった、としました。
　少年はコンピュータのプログラミングを独学で学び、それと同時にマルウェアと自作のボット・コードの実験をしていました。
　警察は少年のコードを、「国際サイバー犯罪捜査官たちが考え得る、最新鋭のボット・プログラムに出くわした。」と表現しました。
　2006年2月、この少年は米ペンシルバニアの大学のサーバーに攻撃をしかけ、それにより大学は数千ドルの被害に遭いました。
　少年はFBIの捜査により捜し出されて現在、コンピュータの不正使用を含む6つの容疑を認めました。　少年のコンピュータには、コンピュータシステムに打撃を与えられ、犯行のためのソフトウェアが備えられていました。

Today’s word is malware. Wikipedia says malware is: software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.

　今日の単語はマルウェアです。　ウィキペディアの解説はこうです。　「オーナーの同意なしでコンピュータシステムを浸透させる、または打撃を与えるために設計されたソフトウェア。」

The word malware comes from the words malicious and software.

　マルウェアは単語maliciousとソフトウェアの合成語です。

Malicious means nasty or evil. Having or showing hatred and a desire to harm sb or hurt their feelings.

　Maliciousの意味は【卑劣、邪悪】で、「他人に危害を与える、または他人の感情を傷つけたいという憎悪や願望を持つ、または示すこと。」

Yeah, definitely. There’s still so many things that could be done better ... but we’ve come a long way, that’s for sure.
