Kia Ora, in Stick News today prisoners in New Zealand jails may soon be unable to use cellphones thanks to a bill which was introduced to Parliament yesterday.

 キオラ、今日のスティックニュースは、ニュージーランドの刑務所に服役中の囚人たちが、もうすぐ携帯電話が使用できなくなることについてお伝えします。
　昨日、ありがたいことにこの法案は下院で審議されました。

 
When people are sent to prison in New Zealand, they’re not usually issued with cellphones.
So prisoners smuggle them in and use the phones to conduct their dodgy deals.
Now the government has introduced a bill which “permits the electronic detection, monitoring, disabling and disruption of wireless transmissions within prison boundaries”.
The NZ Herald reported it also increases penalties for staff who are caught delivering banned items to prisoners.　

　ニュージーランドで刑務所送りになったら、携帯電話を刑務所内に持ち込めません。
　そこで囚人たちは携帯電話を隠し持って入所し、それで外部との怪しい取引の道具として利用しています。
　そして今、政府は「刑務所内の携帯電話の電波を探知、監視し、妨害すること」の法案の審議に入りました。
　NZヘラルドは、これに加え囚人に禁止されている物品の調達をした看守に対する処罰も更に重くすると伝えました。

　で、お前はJohn Keyをrich prickだと思うのかい？

Sarah
Well, I wouldn’t really use those words ... but um ... hmm, I was just reading about him in Wikipedia actually and it sounds like the rich part is true.
　えーっとですね、私はその単語をあまり使いませんが、、、、
　今ちょうどウィキペディアで彼の事について読んだんだけど、どうやらrichって所は本当みたいだよ。

James
What does it say?
　何て書いてある？

Sarah
It says, hang on a minute, “his net worth is estimated to be in excess of 40 million New Zealand dollars”.
　ちょっと待って、えーっとね「彼の資産は4000万NZドル（約34億円）以上であると推定されます」だって。

James
Wow, 40 million. How did he get so much money?
　すげー、4000万ドル。 　そんな大金どうやって稼いだの？

Sarah
He used to be an investment banker.
　投資会社で働いていたから。

James
Ahhh. And what about his political views?
　あーそーなんだ、で、彼の政治のビジョンは？

Sarah
Well, from what it says in Wikipedia most of the bills he supported or opposed are the opposite of what I think, so hmm ...
And I really don’t like how he said there’s an “underclass” in New Zealand.
　ウィキペディアを読んだだけだけど、彼がサポートする、もしくは反対する法案は、私の考えと正反対だわ。
　彼の発言のニュージーランドのunderclassという表現も好きじゃないな。

James
You don’t think there’s an underclass in New Zealand?
　お前はニュージーランドにはアンダークラスは居ないと思うのか？

Sarah
No, not at all. I mean, some people don’t have enough money or food or whatever but it doesn’t mean they are underclass. It just means they have certain issues and as a society we should help each other – but I don’t see how labeling people as “underclass” really helps the situation.
　全く思わない。 　充分なお金や食べ物などが無い人は確かにいるけど、ただその人達はアンダークラスではない。 　これが意味することは、この人達にはある問題が存在して、社会全体で助け合うべき事。 　でも「アンダークラス」というようなラベルを貼りたがる人が、果たしてそれらの状況に救いの手を差しのべるのかどうかは、私には見えないけどね。

No, it was last year.
