Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today were going to study a song by Greg Johnson. Hes a musician from New Zealand. Im a big fan of hisI like his music and I think hes a really nice guy too.

The song we’re going to study today is called: Now The Sun Is Out.

I’m not exactly sure what it all means, but I just like tune and I like the video too – and you can see it on Greg Johnson’s YouTube channel.

I think the song is about a guy who’s in a relationship and his girlfriend is thinking about leaving and he’s encouraging her to stay. Maybe that’s what it’s about. Please tell me if you have a different theory.

So maybe they’ve been having some troubles, in the relationship, but they’re working them out. This is what he sings:

Don't stop ‘cause it's going to be all right Stick with me tonight

stick with sb
is a phrasal verb
to stay close to sb so that they can help you
or: to continue with sth or continue doing sth

He mentions Johnny Cash in the song.
Johnny Cash was a famous American singer. And one of his well known songs is: I Walk The Line.

Apparently this song was written when Johnny Cash was with his first wife and it’s a song reassuring her that he would be faithful when he was on tour.

This is the second verse of that song:

I find it very, very easy to be true I find myself alone when each day is through Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you Because you're mine, I walk the line

So I guess I walk the line means, I won’t do anything bad, like have an affair.

So the line in Greg Johnson’s song is: If you think you’ll never walk the line you’re dreaming.
I think that he’s trying to reassure his girlfriend that she can handle being faithful in a relationship. Or maybe he’s trying to convince himself because he’s so used to being free that he’s worried about whether or not he’ll be able to be faithful to one person.

conversations with sarah

 Why is it called Auckland?

Nancy
Which part of New Zealand is Greg Johnson from?

Sarah
Auckland.

Nancy
Oakland?

Sarah
No, Auckland.
Oakland is in the US or Canada.

Nancy
Oh, Auckland. Is that near Wellington? Wellington’s the only city I’ve heard of.

Sarah
Well, it’s on the same island. They’re both on the North Island.

Nancy
Why is it called Auckland? Are there lots of Aucks?

Sarah
Yeah, there are thousands of Aucks running wild everywhere.

Nancy
Oh, really?

Sarah
No, I’m kidding. There’s no such thing as an Auck. Not as far as I know anyway. Actually, when the Europeans came to New Zealand, they renamed a lot of the places after people and places back in Europe.

Nancy
So there was a person called Auckland?

Sarah
Yeah, maybe. I’m not sure. I’d have to look it up.

 Now The Sun Is Out
  By Greg Johnson

I been walking down a concrete street
Stood on a step with the same two feet as before
You think you can walk away from love

You’re dreaming about living in a place of your own
Very fast car on a very long road
A smile from you
A hug that leaves no doubt

Now the sun is out, it's warming up between us
We've got to keep the faith so the love can never leave us
Sweet lover well you know what I like
Don't stop ‘cause it's going to be all right

We’re not friends if you don’t have time it’s like
Johnny Cash and the ties that bind
If you think you’ll never walk the line you’re dreaming
You’re dreaming about living in a tree-lined street
Kicking up leaves with the same two feet as before
You don't want to be lonely anymore

Now the sun is out, it’s warming up between us
We've got to keep the faith so the love can never leave us
Sweet lover well you know what I like
Don't stop ‘cause it's going to be all right
Stick with me tonight
It’s going to be all right
It’s going to be all right
It’s going to be all right

Been walking down a concert street
I stood on a step with the same two feet as before
You think you can walk away from love

Now the sun is out, it’s warming up between us
We've got to keep the faith so the love can never leave us
Sweet lover well you know what I like
Don't stop it cause it's going to be all right
It’s going to be all right

Now the sun is out, it’s warming up between us
We've got to keep the faith so the love can never leave us
Sweet lover well you know what I like
Don't stop it cause it's going to be all right

If you stick with me tonight
If you stick with me tonight
It’s going to be all right
