Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
Today we’re studying a scene from the movie Home Alone.
![ホーム・アローン [DVD]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/2149AG9F9EL._SL160_.jpg)
In this scene a young boy called Kevin is talking to an old man. And the old man is explaining why he doesn’t talk to his son anymore. And he explains that many years ago they had an argument.
He says: We lost our tempers and I said I didn't care to see him anymore. He said the same and we haven't spoken to each other since.
Lose your temper is an idiom which means to fail to control your anger.
The man also says: I’m afraid if I call him, he won’t talk to me.
And Kevin says: No offence, but, aren’t you a little old to be afraid?
No offence is also an idiom.
used to say that you do not mean to upset or insult sb by sth you say or do
Kevin’s saying it because it’s kind of rude to say that somebody’s old.
And the example here is: No offence, but I’d really like to be on my own.
Incidentally, some people use this idiom in quite a strange way. They use it before saying something that’s clearly offensive and they think they can get away with it by saying no offence at the start. Very odd.
STICK NEWS

Maureen said the kids had been getting ready for the next act. They’d had their hair down for the previous dance ... so they had been furiously spraying their hair to get it back into the right place.
And that was Stick News for Tuesday the 9th of December.

Heated means full of anger or excitement.

I think Home Alone was a good movie. Really? I didn’t think it very good.
But if you get angry or excited, then it can turn into an argument.
What are you talking about? Home Alone was crap! It wasn’t crap. It was good. It was funny. Funny?! More like cheesy as hell and the acting was atrocious. You have no taste.
