Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today is Friday so we’re studying a song.

Today we’re studying another Michael Jackson song called: Man In The Mirror. It came out in 1988.



The song’s about a person who looks around themselves and sees things in the world that they want to change.

For example:
　I see the kids in the street
　With not enough to eat

And he realizes that he’s been living his life selfishly, not really thinking about other people:

　I've been a victim of
　A selfish kind of love
　It's time that I realize
　There are some with no home

And he realizes that if he wants to make a positive change in the world, then he has to start with himself first.

　I'm starting with the man in the mirror
　I'm asking him to change his ways

I think it’s a beautiful song with a great message:

　If you wanna make the world a better place
　Take a look at yourself and then make a change







STICK NEWS

Kia ora, in Stick News today, Google has announced it’s releasing an operating system.


An operating system is a set of programs that controls the way a computer works and runs other programs.
Apparently, Microsoft's Windows operating system has a huge global usage share.
But Google has just announced they’re going to release an operating system.
It will be called Chrome and will be available to consumers in the second half of 2010.

Sarah
I saw something crazy this morning.
今朝、もの凄いのを見かけましたよ。

Kara
What?

Sarah
Well, You know how they did up the outside of my apartment building.
私が住んでいるアパートが外壁工事したのは知ってるよね。

Kara
Yeah.

Sarah
Well, they also put asphalt in front of it for some reason.
それと同時にアパートの前にアスファルトを敷きました。

Kara
What’s asphalt?
アスファルトって何？

Sarah
It’s the black stuff that’s on roads and tennis courts.
道路やテニスコートに敷き詰める黒いもの。

Kara
Oh, OK.

Sarah
And some plants have started growing through it. They’ve pushed their way through the asphalt.
植物が芽を出したのです。　アスファルトを突き破って。

Kara
Wow, they must be strong.
ワオ、力強いですね。

Sarah
Yeah.

Kara
What kind of plants are they?
どんな植物ですか？

Sarah
I don’t know.
知らん。

After I filmed this I realized that I pronounced this word incorrectly.
I said "ash" ... it should be "as".
