First I sliced the eggplant then I used a cookie cutter to make the shape of New Zealand. まず茄子を切り、ニュージーランドの形をしたクッキーの型抜きを使います。
I got three New Zealands out of this eggplant, but you could get more if made the slices thinner of course. 今回は一つの茄子から３つのニュージーランドが出来ましたが、薄く切れば当然数が増えます。
Then I put the countries in a frying pan with some olive oil and soy sauce and a bit of water.
After about 5 minutes I turned them over, which turned out to be quite tricky because the islands were held together by a very thin piece of eggplant. フライパンにニュージーランドを乗せ、オリーブオイル、しょう油、水少々入れます。 ５分後、ひっくり返しますが、北島と南島の繋がりが薄いので結構難しいです。
And by the time they’d finished cooking the countries had completely fallen apart. But that didn’t really matter because the north and south islands of New Zealand aren’t actually supposed to be joined together.
