Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
Today we’re studying a scene from an American movie which has just been released called Valentine’s Day
This movie is a romantic comedy, starring many, many famous people … if I mentioned them all it would take up the whole video, so let’s just talk about the scene
A woman called Julia is talking to her friend in a flower shop – he’s a florist. And she’s talking about her new boyfriend and saying that it’s going well.
And she says: He’s just the first decent guy I’ve dated in a long time.
Decent is an adjective which means: of a good enough standard or quality.
So, presumably, the other guys that she has been out with recently haven’t been very nice, but she thinks this guy is. But, actually, it turns out he’s not very nice after all, but anyway …
And the friend asks: When do I get to me the phantom physician?
A physician is another word for a doctor.
And phantom is an adjective which means: existing only in your imagination.
So he’s jokingly doubting that this great guy actually exists, because he hasn’t met him yet.STICK NEWS
Her grandfather was an immigrant from England.
Hanson became a local body politician in 1994 and got into national politics two years later.
In 1996, she gave her first speech to the House of Representatives,
She said she wanted multiculturalism abolished and that Australia was in danger of being swamped by Asians.
Hanson has recently announced that she’s planning to move to the UK.
And that was Stick News for Tuesday the 16th of February.

Today’s word is sick.
You probably know what sick means, but do you know what it means to be sick of sb/sth or to be sick of doing sth?
Well, let me tell you.
It means: to be bored with or annoyed about sth that has been happening for a long time, and wanting it to stop.
In the scene today, Julia says: I am so sick of dating.conversations with sarah
I am so sick of dating
He’s just the first decent guy I’ve dated in a long time.
Oh, it’s going that well, huh?
I am so sick of dating. I’m so jealous of you guys.
When do I get to meet the phantom physician?
I think soon.
You guys got plans tonight?
No, nothing, just … he has to go San Francisco, so we’re going to talk on the phone.
You know what you should do? You should fly up and surprise him.
You think so?
Yeah, why not?
