Today we’re studying a scene from a movie called Choices.
This movie came out in 1981 and apparently it was Demi Moore’s first movie.
The movie’s about a guy who plays violin and American football.
And in the scene we’re studying today, his grandfather, who is also his violin teacher, is trying to tell him to stop playing football because violin is more important.
He says: You've got to be serious. Forget football, you need more rehearsals.
But the boy isn’t interested in what his grandfather has to say, and he says: Grandpa, I just turned seventeen, and all that's really important to me right now, is what I'm doing on Saturday night. You know what I mean?
And he takes a condom out of his pocket.
And then his grandfather realizes that he’s not taking his advice seriously, so he gives up and he says: Well my boy, I guess there's just no way of getting through to you, is there?
Get through to somebody is a phrasal verb which means: to make sb understand or accept what you say, especially when you are trying to help them.
The New Zealand national soccer team is called the All Whites. In 1982 they went to the World Cup for the first time and lost all three games. This year they got to go again. Their first game was against Slovakia. And soccer fans were overjoyed when they didn’t lose. Next, they played Italy, the current world champions. And for the second time in a row, New Zealand didn’t lose.
And that was Stick News for Tuesday the 22nd of June. Kia ora.
