Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Manu. He’s from the North Island of New Zealand. He’s originally from a town called Kerikeri and he grew up in Auckland. And he just spent the winter here in Niseko snowboarding. I asked him why he came to Japan.
I came cause my brother was running a lodge and he needed some help and it was up in Hokkaido. And I’ve never been to anywhere in Asia, so Japan was the option and I thought, “Yeah, why not? Come investigate it.” Yeah. Had a great time since, eh, everyone’s been great. Food, cuisine … but more to the point, the powder of Japan is, ah, amazing. Never seen anything like it. Not in Australia, New Zealand, wherever I’ve been.
Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Dan. He’s from a place called Surry the UK and he’s been working here in Niseko this winter as an instructor – he mainly teaches snowboarding, and he also teaches skiing as well.
I asked him why he decided to be an instructor.
I used to work in an office job in London, um, and just got fed up with being stuck indoors, um, and dealing with lots of stress, ah, and generally feeling like I wasn’t getting the most from my life so I wanted to some here and do something I loved and try and make this work for me. So here I am.
Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Emma. She’s from Leicester in England and she came to Niseko for a couple of weeks this winter to visit her boyfriend who was working as a ski instructor. Emma is a model and after visiting Niseko she went and did a photo shoot in Tokyo. I interviewed her a few days before she left and we talked about modelling. The first thing I asked her about was why she decided to get into modelling.
I did it cause, obviously cause I’m tall, people always said, oh, you should try it. And so I had a photo shoot and decided that I did really like it. So I sent them off to some agencies and then I got a few agents and just started to get work. And I really enjoy it, so I’ll just keep doing it.
Was it difficult to get work?
No, not really. I just did one photo shoot to get some photos to see if I liked it and to see if I could do it and then I sent those off and they were well received, so I did more from there.
Today’s guest is Woosuk. He’s from Seoul in South Korea. He came to Japan in October and he studied at a language school in Tokyo for three months and then arrived in Hokkaido in January and he stayed here in Niseko for the season.
I asked him how long he’d been studying Japanese in Korea before he came here.
I had studied Japanese for two months from last summer. So from last summer I decided to study Japanese. So that’s why I went to Tokyo and then that’s why I’m staying in Hokkaido, so I can enjoy snowboarding and then I can study Japanese.
Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Hannah. She’s from Scotland and she’s been in Japan since September. Over the winter she’s been working and snowboarding here in Niseko – but before that she was in Tokyo teaching English and I asked her how that was.
Yeah, I loved it. Tokyo’s an amazing place. Really fun.
